On Thursday, the CCHA announced the appointment of Marco Hunt as the conference’s new director.
Hunt will officially take over on June 1, replacing Kevin Langseth, who will step down at the end of May.
“Marco was an outstanding referee who officiated numerous WCHA Final Fives, NCAA Regionals, and Frozen Fours,” CCHA Commissioner Don Lucia said in a statement. He understands what it takes to be an elite administrator and will be able to teach and share this knowledge with our current and future officials. I look forward to Marco joining the CCHA staff and helping him as we prepare for next season.”
Hunt joins the CCHA after spending the past seven years as a primary assistant to the Big Ten’s supervisor of officials where he helped schedule regular season and postseason games, as well as contributing to the league’s supplemental discipline decisions. In addition, he conducted on-site reviews for game officials, video reviews of important plays and weekly communication with coaches and officials to help with improvement and development.
From 1997 to 2017, Hunt officiated on the ice in the WCHA and Big Ten conferences, and participated in the WCHA Final Five, Big Ten tournament, and NCAA Tournament games for the last 11 years of his on-ice career. Throughout his career, he has acted on seven Frozen films, including 2002, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2015.

My goal is to help the conference take an already talented group and help shape it into one of the best state staffers in the county.”
Hunt officiated Division III hockey games from 1994 to 2008, including national championship contests in 2006 and 2008. President of the St. Paul Hockey Officials Association in 2001, supervised more than 200 umpires and linemen, managed schedules and divisional assignments, In addition to appointing and training new officials.
Born in Woodbury, Minnesota, Hunt is a 1988 graduate of Bemidji State, where he played four seasons with the Beavers and won a Division III national championship in 1986. He received an MBA from BSU in 1990.
