Earlier this week, the mixed martial arts community was shocked upon hearing of the tragic death of 29-year-old MMA fighter Sherry Schmidt.
A lifelong New Jersey resident, Schmidt was involved in a car accident on June 5, 2023, and died as a result of her injuries.
She was a former AMA Motocross Track Champion. As a teenager, she developed a passion for fitness and martial arts, which led to her being a popular and influential member of the MMA community. She was a member of MMA beacon and WEBB Fitness MMA.
Schmidt has a 2-2 amateur mixed martial arts record and most recently competed in Maverick MMA in March, where he suffered a third round defeat to Paige Wilcox at Maverick 22.
In her first MMA match, Schmidt lost a unanimous decision to rookie prospect Janie Rosario at Art of War Cage Fighting 19. She then followed up that first defeat with back-to-back unanimous decision wins inside the cage for Dead Serious MMA.
Beacon MMA will now be holding a fundraiser to support the Schmidt family. Many of the region’s best fighters and trainers will donate their time for the useful seminar. (Information in the poster below).
On Saturday June 24th, we will be hosting an MMA seminar to benefit our beloved colleague, friend, and sister, Sherry’s family.
We will have a variety of guest coaches to join us! Read the Facebook post.
The recommended donation for participation in the symposium is $30. If you are participating in the seminar, please ensure you have appropriate training equipment (head gear, gloves, shin guards).
