Anthony Smith blames The Ultimate Fighter 31 editorial staff for misrepresenting Conor McGregor.
TUF 31 saw head coach Conor McGregor go winless in the first five games of the season. This of course means that opposing coach Michael Chandler’s team is riding high with no losses so far.
TUF 31 airs on Tuesday nights, with the final episode airing on August 15th. In the final episode, McGregor showed his anger when Brad Katona took his fifth straight loss by defeating Carlos Vera.
Smith spoke on the “Believe You Me” podcast, with Michael Bisping, where he shared his thoughts on how to portray the Irishman on TUF 31:
“Here’s the thing, it’s been the format all along. In all of the show’s history, it’s been the format. When it doesn’t work out, leave it to Conor to change it in his favour. You have to fight with the rules you fight in. Like in the PFL, men don’t walk in shape.” Well if I had my elbows I would have won.”
The following preview for TUF 31’s sixth episode shows the growing tension between McGregor, who clearly doesn’t like losing, and Chandler.
Continuing, Anthony Smith (h/t Manyus):
“Also I don’t think this season of The Ultimate Fighter is doing his job very well. I think people get annoyed with him and it’s not necessarily his fault. It’s a lot of editing, you know what I mean, I don’t think he’s being filmed, he looks like a great boss, but he It also makes him sound like a kid. Kind of whiny, and complain, and have tantrums.”
The opposing TUF 31 coaches, Conor McGregor (22-6 MMA) and Michael Chandler (23-8 MMA), are supposed to fight in the Octagon sometime after the series finale, with the exact date, time, and venue yet to be determined.
As for Anthony Smith (36-18 MMA), he is set to take on Ryan Spann (21-8 MMA) in a light heavyweight bout this coming August 26 in Singapore.
Do you agree with Smith that “Notorious” is being portrayed as a whiner and complainer on TUF 31?
