Alex Volkanowski wants to ditch the featherweight division and establish himself as the greatest 145-pound champion of all time, but he’s finding it hard to get the job done because former featherweight titleholder Max Holloway continues to spoil the rise of every available competitor.
Like Arnold Allen, for example, who recently fell to “Blessed” in UFC Kansas City.
I remember saying to him after the last fight, I just said to him, ‘Get out of the band! Mac Live. “Many people will sit there, before last [Saturday] The night, “Oh, he fell” and all that stuff. no, not this. Trust me. Wait for him to fight again and you’ll forget about it next time. He finally proved it [Saturday] The night, it looked great. You feel bad too, in this situation, like, “Why does this guy have to be here and be in my fucking department?” Max is clearly a great guy, too, a great fighter. It’s a tough situation for Max, that’s for sure, but you never know.”
Holloway recently teased a return to the lightweight division.
“Blessed” made three attempts to take down Volkanovski but failed on every attempt, although arguments were made in favor of the Hawaiian at the conclusion of this tournament. It’s hard to make a case for a fourth fight between the old rivals but that doesn’t mean Holloway is finished with shots to the featherweight title.
But he’ll need Yair Rodriguez to spoil the 145-pound apple cart at UFC 290 in July.
