TUSKALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama point guard Jahvon Quinerly is planning a transition for his final season, adding to the players leaving the turbulent program.
Quinerly announced his plans Sunday night on social media after initially opting to return rather than pursue his teammates Brandon Millerand Noah Clooney and Charles Pediaco in the NBA Draft.
“Part of my journey is taking risks and following my heart,” Quinnerly posted on social media. “Sometimes with the passage of time, we know it’s time to move on and take risks and follow our hearts. But this really is a bittersweet moment for me.”
It’s another big loss for Alabama after Miller and Clooney were both first round draft picks after their senior seasons. Bediako went unpolished. Guard Jaden Bradley has transferred to Arizona State.
Alabama lost to San Diego State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament to end a season filled with upsets. Reserve Darius Miles Another man has been charged with first degree murder in the January 15 shooting of 23-year-old Jamie Gunay Harris of Birmingham.
Police testimony later revealed that Miller and Bradley were also at the scene, although neither had been charged with a crime.
Quinnerly played three seasons at Alabama after missing a year following his transfer from Villanova. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder averaged 8.7 points and a team-high 3.6 assists last season after that. Coming back from a knee injuryand was named Southeastern Conference Man of the Year.
But he averaged a career-high 21 minutes in the Tide game, which secured the top seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Quinerly was the SEC Tournament MVP in 2021 and also earned all-tournament honors last season. He averaged a team-best 15 points in three NCAA Tournament games, and scored 22 in a second-round win over Maryland.
