Alabama point guard Jahvon Quinerly will be leaving the Crimson Tide and entering the NCAA transfer portal, he said in a statement Sunday. The former five-star from the 2018 recruiting cycle started his professional career at Villanova before transferring to Alabama in 2019 and was projected to be a key member of the Crimson Tide squad of the year.
Quinerly had to sit out one season due to an NCAA transfer rule and came off the bench for Alabama during the 2020-21 season. Last season, he was named the SEC Man of the Year after averaging 8.7 points, 3.6 assists and 1.9 rebounds.
“I can’t say enough about Alabama basketball,” Quinnerly said in a statement. “My team, staff and all of Bama’s fans have been the best. She embraced me and treated me like gold from day one. The relationships I’ve built have transcended basketball and that’s something that made my decision to enter the transfer gate very difficult for me. My basketball journey has been something no student-athlete can Dreaming about it.It has definitely come with its share of ups and downs, but I have been very fortunate to have a lovely support system to help me through some of my difficult moments and I think that is what makes this message so emotional but also exciting to share with everyone.
“Part of my journey is to take risks and follow my heart. Sometimes as time goes by, we know it’s time to move on and take risks and follow our heart. But this is a really bittersweet moment for me. Quinerly’s decision to enter the transfer portal comes just one month after he decided to withdraw his name from it NBA Draft Consider back to school for one final season.
Alabama coach Nate Oates has been busy in the transfer gate this offseason, landing Hofstra guard Aaron Estrada and California State guard Fullerton Latrell Wrightsel Jr. Estrada is a two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and Wrightshell earned All-Big West honors. Last season.
