The Pelicans are very interested in acquiring Scoot Henderson, who would likely be the second overall pick by the Hornets. Understandably, it would take a star to offer Charlotte to consider giving up on a potential franchise player.
Zion Williamson is the first candidate to be included in such a trade. However, NBA insider Sun Charania reports that New Orleans is indeed interested in Brandon Ingram. Interestingly enough, ESPN’s Jonathan Giffoni is convinced that neither Williamson nor Ingram will move the Pelicans.
While it remains to be seen if Zion will be available for a trade by the Pels, one thing seems clear — his relationship with the organization is in a bad place as NBA insider Brian Windhorst reports.
“The Zion Williamson thing is out there,” Windhorst said via hoops. “This is to say the least. There is no relationship between Zion and the organization. And minimal relationship between Zion and his colleagues, from what I understand.
“It’s amazing to me how in the league it is that the Pelicans discuss Zion’s business. I want to be very careful about the word ‘offer’ because that word is a dangerous word. I’m not sure the Pelicans have ever ‘offered’ Zion to anyone, but in all A day goes by over the past five or six days, I hear various discussions the Pelicans have that suggest they are going to save Zion. He or Brandon Ingram. I wouldn’t rule out anything I think, but the events of the last six months with Zion are what they are.”
Last season, Williamson averaged 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 33 minutes over 29 games.
