Here are 5 things to know on Round Three in Oak Hill.
leaders
It’s a triple tie at the top with 36 holes left to play, as Scotty Scheffler, Victor Hovland and Corey Connors are all five-under-par.
Scheffler has the most prestigious pedigree of that group, with Masters and Players Championship wins on his resume. A win this week would give him the second leg of the Grand Slam. Connors and Hoveland have two and three PGA Tour victories, respectively.
The contenders
Behind the leading trio are six other players within four shots of their lead, including Bryson DeChambeau (-3), Brooks Koepka (-2) and Justin Rose (-1). Animated drama is waiting for you!
What happened to John Ram?
After a surprising opening round of six-over-76, world number one John Ramm bounced back on Friday with a two-under 68, which was enough to put him on the right side of the cut line so he could stay into the weekend. .
He’s four now – apparently not much of a threat to the leaders, but one round on Saturday could change everything.
What about Rory?
It’s been nearly a decade since Rory McIlroy won his last major championship, which happened to be the 2014 PGA in Valhalla, which also happens to be next year’s venue. But we digress!
McIlroy found a bit of a spark at the end of his second round, posting three birdies in his last 10 holes to return to par for the championship – and within six seemingly beatable shots from the lead.
Expectations
After the cooler temperatures on Thursday morning, players will likely be happy to see the low temperatures climb into the 60s on Saturday. Unfortunately, Balsam comes with an expected downpour. According to Weather.com, it will almost certainly rain steadily by lunchtime on Saturday. The good news? Sunday looks glorious, with sunshine and temperatures reaching into the 70s.
