College basketball recruiting takes center stage at Providence Friars this week. Currently, all eyes are on 2024 four-star point guard Daquan Davis, a hot prospect on the cusp of announcing his selection to the university. As we prepare for his June 24 announcement, speculation is gaining momentum about his next destination. Among the firsts, Providence is generating buzz as a potential pick.
Hailing from Washington, D.C., Daquan Davis is known for his prowess on the court. With an impressive 6-foot-1 stature and a proven track record at St. John’s College High School, Davis is a promising recruit. His style of play combines a skillful goal-scoring ability with an innate skill to facilitate play, adding great value to his profile as a future college basketball starting point guard.

4 PG stars among the top secondary talent in the country
What makes this young goalkeeper even more exciting is his ranking on 247Sports. They listed Davis as the 78th prospect and the No. 7 player in the class of 2024, making him a player to watch.
The Providence Monks have a history of spotting and nurturing talent, and Davis appears to be on their radar. The team’s new coach, Kim English, appeared to take a keen interest in Davis. Immediately after taking up his role in Providence, one of his first initiatives for employment was to reach out to Davis.
How does Daquan Davis fit into Providence?
To dig deeper into Davis’ potential compatibility with the Providence Friars, let’s consider the team’s roster situation. Of the Friars’ current outfielders, only Alyn Breed, who is currently suspended, Jayden Pierre, who had minimal playing time as a freshman, and upcoming top-50 freshman combo guard, Garwey Dual, are notably mentioned.
With Coach English needing a goalkeeper for the 2024 class, Davis could provide a much-needed boost.
However, Maryland, Mississippi State, and Notre Dame also remained in the race. Each school offers its own unique appeal and opportunities to Davis. However, there seems to be an echo of Providence that is hard to ignore.
Daquan Davis is infatuated with the Monks’ training team
In Davis’ own words, his communication with Coach Kim English and Coach Nate Tomlinson, who communicate with him daily, makes him feel like he really is a Brothers point guard.
“Coach Kim (English) and Coach Nate (Tomlinson) reach out to me every single day and have conversations with me like I’m really BJ,” Davis said. “Most importantly, I’m just someone they believe in. They’ve shown me consistency they never fizzle out every time since they got a providential job they beat me up and as mentioned before I want to have a relationship with the coach the school of my choice they definitely make Great condition nonetheless.”
This personal connection and the coaches’ genuine concern for his professional aspirations makes a convincing argument for Davis for preferring Providence.
While the decision rests with Davis, his potential match-up with Providence Friars is clearly promising. As we await his announcement on June 24, the possibility of him wearing the Friars jersey is becoming even more tantalizing. Could we see this 4-star goalkeeper add to the brothers’ roster? Time will tell, but all signs point to an exciting possibility.
