The City That Never Sleeps harbors insatiable sports fanatics who never sleep, so The Post offers a list of 30 events you might not want to miss this summer:
1. NHL Draft (June 28-29)
The Rangers will pick 23rd. There are no first-round picks for the Devils or Islanders. The Blackhawks have the #1 pick and are believed to be likely to use it on 17-year-old center Connor Beddard.
2. NHL Free Agency (starting July 1)
Patrick Kane (Rangers) will hit the market for the first time in his career. Teammate Vladimir Tarasenko will be dipping his skates in the free-agent waters, too. Cash-strapped GM Chris Drury also has to contend with potential losses to Tyler Mott, Nico Mikkola and Jaroslav Halak.
3. Nathan’s International Hot Dog Contest (July 4th)
All eyes and belly on chestnut joey. The 15-time mustard yellow belt king devoured 63 hot dogs and buns last year. Miki Sudou was a female chompion. 35,000 hungry fans are expected in Coney Island.
4. NBA Summer League (July 7-17)
Spurs first overall pick Victor Wimpanyama wants to play. From Paris to New York, who wouldn’t want to watch? Of course the Knicks and Nets will be involved.
5. New York Liberty vs Seattle Storm (July 8)
Breanna Stewart faces her former team, with whom she has spent the previous six seasons, at the Barclays Center. Sabrina Ionescu is always worth the price of admission.
6. MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby (July 10)
Juan Soto deposed Pete Alonso last year.
7. MLB All-Star Game (July 11)
The captain, Derek Jeter, will be in the Fox Sports booth. He appeared in 14 of those, so he’ll know everything you need to know. Alonso and possibly Francisco Lindor will represent the Mets. The Yankees’ Gerrit Cole and possibly Anthony Rizzo will join Aaron Judge, should he return.
8. Deadline for Sakon (July 17)
Deadline for Saquon Barkley and the Giants to strike a deal. Or that Barkley signs a $10.1 million franchise bid — or not.
9 – Aircraft Training Camp (starts late July)
Aaron Rodgers’ Planes – Still a little hard to understand, right? Pre-Season will open with over-the-moon expectations and namath-like hype. A standing room only in Florham Park, NJ, per practice is open to the public—the long-suffering public, which will not exist with Zack Wilson. All eyes are on number 8.
10. Women’s World Cup (21 July – 20 August)
USA vs Vietnam on Fox, in the opening round of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Forwards Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe and defenseman Kelley O’Hara have been named to their fourth Trophy roster as the USWNT seeks a historic three-thumbs up.
11. Subway Series 2 (July 25-26)
The fight moves to Yankee Stadium, where there will be more sizzles from Part 1. Steve Cohen will count on Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander who are getting older as the season goes on.
13. Giants Training Camp (starts late July)
The Brian Daboll Giants will open training camp for the first time in six seasons as a playoff team. Will Sakon Barkley be there? If there is, will he be happy with the new contract or just unhappy with the franchise label?
13. Yankees vs. Rays (July 31 – August 2)
The Yankees face the Rays (currently number one in the AL East) on the field. These teams do not like each other. Can the Yankees catch them?
14. Hall of Fame Game (August 3)
When the Jets take on the Browns in Canton, Ohio, expect to see Rodgers on the sidelines helping coach Wilson.
15. Yankees vs. Astros (August 3-6)
Enemies and obstacles to the World Series come to town looking to maintain any psychological advantage they hold over the Yankees. Jose Altuve may want to wear earplugs.
16. Induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame (August 5)
Jets Darrelle Revis and Joe Klecko will be honored in Canton, Ohio, joining franchise greats Joe Namath, Weeb Ewbank, Don Maynard and Curtis Martin. Sauce Gardner will try to emulate Revis Island this season, and Quinnen Williams is set to play Klecko in any New York Sack Exchange II.
17. New York Liberty vs Las Vegas Aces (August 6)
The defending WNBA champions come to the Barclays Center to try and send a message to the MLB team. Two-time Vegas MVP and Defensive Player of the Year winner A’ja Wilson is problematic. So is goalkeeper Jackie Young. Giants TE Darren Waller can be expected to cheer on the new bride and Aces guard Kelsey Bloom.
18- Brooklyn Cyclones vs. Hudson Valley Renegades (August 15-20)
Mets vs Yankees off Coney Island. Six games in six days. The Hurricanes now look as if they have to succumb to the role of spoilers. $5.25 for a foot of Nathan? Put it in the books!
19. Yankees vs. Red Sox (August 18-20)
It’s still Boston vs. New York.
20. Giants vs. Panthers (Aug. 18)
The Big Blue’s preseason home opener. Check out recruits Deonte Banks, John Michael Schmitz, and Jalin Hyatt.
21. Gates vs. the Buccaneers (August 19)
An expected first sight of Rodgers donning his number eight at MetLife Stadium. Check out recruits Will McDonald and Joe Tipman.
22. Mets vs. Angels (Aug. 25-27)
Shuhei Ohtani, anyone? Mike Trout, anyone?
23. Jets vs. Giants (August 26)
Many of the fighters seeking bragging rights at the regular season meeting on Oct. 29 likely won’t play more than half — and you’d better believe that includes Rodgers.
24. The Travers Stakes (Aug. 26)
The Midsummer Classic for 3-year-olds in Saratoga is the biggest race of the summer. There is a good chance that Kentucky Derby winners Preakness and Belmont will meet in a race that could go a long way toward determining the 2023 Champion 3-Year-Old. If you see Rick Pitino out there, ask him to pick some winners for you. It’s on a roll. And look – there’s Bill Parcells!
25. Messi visits (26 August).
Legendary Lionel Messi and Inter Miami travel to Harrison, NJ, to take on the Red Bulls.
26. US Open (Aug 28 – Sept 10)
Celebrities from the worlds of sports, entertainment, and politics will be at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center, as always. Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest No. 1 player in the world at the age of 19 by defeating Casper Rudd last year in the men’s singles final. Iga Swiatek is the defending women’s singles champion. No emotional goodbyes for Serena Williams this time around.
27 Yankees Old Timer Day (September 9)
Unusually late in the year, but better late than never for the tradition-rich 75th, with a clash against the Brewers to boot.
28. Giants vs. Cowboys (September 10)
Jerry Jones brings Dak Prescott to MetLife Stadium for his opening night game against The $40 Million Man, Daniel Jones.
29. Planes vs. Bills (9/11)
Rodgers is making his regular season debut with the Jets with both Green Bay and Football America watching Josh Allen and the defending AFC East champion.
30 – Hudson River Derby (September 16)
New York City FC Red Bulls visit. These fan bases don’t like each other. What better way to end our sports summer in New York?
