We had 3 Rangers roster moves this afternoon. It was a short lived NHL stint for Adam Edstrom, who was returned to Hartford just hours after his call up. It seems odd that the Rangers would have wasted a day of cap space for a questionable recall (not saying the idea was questionable, just the timing/cap considerations), but they also don’t have a good track record with day to day cap management.
In addition to returning Edstrom to Hartford, the Rangers placed both Kaapo Kakko and Filip Chytil on LTIR. Chytil was retroactive to November 3, his original injury date.
With #NYR adding Chytil $4.4375M & Kakko $2.1M to LTIR, their cap hits are added as space.
After Brodzinski/Edstrom up & Mackey down, have $15.19M Cap Space remaining in LTIR
Once Fox is activated, lose his $9.5M of space, leaving $5.69M space remaininghttps://t.co/LeG78iDyTZ

The cap implications are significant by adding Chytil to LTIR, giving the Rangers more wiggle room with Adam Fox returning tomorrow. You can also add about another $850,000 with returning Edstrom to Hartford, making it $6.49 million in cap space, using LTIR overages.
Assuming Chytil eventually returns, that will drop to a little more than $2 million in cap space with Kakko on LTIR. There is still no word on the severity of his injury. But since he’s already on LTIR, we know it’s serious.
