Jason Day wanted to talk about the cut.
In fact, many people these days want to. In a look at the participants in the golf wars, LIV Golf keeps everyone grounded on the weekends, and guarantees everyone a paycheck – and in response, the PGA Tour revolves around the same idea of an elevated event series. This caused people to discuss the merits of removing 36 holes.
like today.
Who seemed really interested to know what everyone thinks ahead of this week’s Wells Fargo tournament. Even correspondents.
Reporter: “Jason, how do you think the plan for the particular event worked out? How does it work for you and what do you think going forward?”
Day: “I mean, what do you guys think? Did I like it?”
Reporter: “Well, I guess…”
Today: “Do you like having pieces compared to others?”
Reporter. “Well, that’s another problem.”
Today: Do you like wound?
Reporter: “Yes.”
Day: “I love making the cut, too. I’m on the opposite side of what most people think in terms of having a shorter stint – we’re basically going back to the WGC days. You’ll have a great field, which is great. If you play well in those events, I usually You stay in the top 50 every year, and usually it’s easier to stay in the top 50 that way. I think this year has worked great with the cuts. I mean, we’ve had the best players in the world rise to the occasion a few times now. I feel like it If we talk about — now, granted I’m not in those meetings, I don’t know all the facts about them, but I look at them and say if the best guys are still supposed to go into the weekend, we have to play better, and I understand that. If we don’t We play better, we have to re-evaluate why we are not playing better and put ourselves in the competition.
“To keep players for four days, I totally understand that aspect too but if I’m looking at it I’d rather get a cut and then – curve I know it’s like West Coast at the moment there are daylight issues so there are certain types of fields We can only handle it. Yeah, I’d rather cut, I think that would be much better.”
Reporter: “But you understand, too, that part of that was, the idea is to reward guys? It’s basically guaranteed pay in those tournaments.”
Day: “Why do we need a guaranteed wage?”
Reporter: “It seems that — look, some of this is clearly in response to LIV.”
Today: “Yeah, 100 percent. I don’t think — look, we’ve played golf our whole lives. I think the majority of fans know you go in, you play two days. If you don’t play well, you’re out, and you don’t get paid. That’s how it works.” Our life.
“Don’t get me wrong, if you’re in those events and we’re playing for guaranteed money, that’s massive. I mean, that’s great. I think the biggest thing we have to do is see how this year goes, see how the next year goes and then pit them against each other.” Some of.were tournaments around set events with no cuts, were they improved like on the fields, were there more players out there, was there overall better play for no cuts, and then making the decision from there.
“I think a lot of the decisions we’ve made, the Tour we’ve taken and the Policy Board over the last year, there’s obviously been a reaction to what LIV has brought to the table. To be honest, I think everybody’s better at it. I mean, we’re game for more. Money on both sides. What’s more sustainable, I’m not sure, but I look at the picture now and it feels pretty good. I’m just trying to get back to winning at the end of the day and let Rory and these guys make the decision.”
With that said, here’s Wells Fargo’s championship bag. The winner gets $3.6 million from the $20 million purse.
