2023 Calder Cup Qualifiers Rules:
In 2022-23, the AHL will have 23 teams participating in the postseason.
The playoff field will include the top six finishers in the eight-team Atlantic Division, the top five finishers in each of the seven-team North and Central divisions, and the top seven teams in the 10-team Pacific Division.
Home-ice advantage in all series will be awarded to the team with more points in the regular season standings.
It will be the first round of a best-of-three series. The Division Semifinals and Finals will be best-of-five series; Conference Finals and Calder Cup Finals in best-of-seven format.
The following are the tie-breaking procedures used in the event of a tie in the standings, regardless of division, after the conclusion of the regular season. When a tie is broken between three or more teams resulting in a tie between two teams, the original tiebreaker method is used.
between two teams:
a) Games won in regulation (excluding overtime/shootouts)
b) Games won in regulation or overtime (excluding penalty shootouts)
c) Win games in any way
d) Points in the season series between the teams
e) goal difference
f) Goals scored in the season series between the teams
g) The percentage of points within the conference
Among three or more teams:
a) Games won in regulation (excluding overtime/shootouts)
b) Games won in regulation or overtime (excluding penalty shootouts)
c) Win games in any way
d) Point percentage in the Common Season Series
e) goal difference
f) Goal difference in the Common Season Series
g) The percentage of points within the conference
