The stars are out for the 2023 American Century Championship. During Thursday’s Pro-Am, Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz from GOLF’s SubPar podcast Take on the ACC Korbel Celebrity Long Drive Competition. The scene was poppin’.
From Pat McAfee getting straight off the plane after hosting ESPY’s for 7:45 a.m. tee time to Travis Kelce ending the day with a ball that might have cleared the Tahoe Mountains, it’s been a day for the ages. Colt and Drew rubbed the shoulders of the biggest names from the world of sports and entertainment as they took their talents to the course. While most of them shouldn’t think of quitting their day jobs, this field of celebrity has been filled with some serious golf talent.
Arguably the most exciting players in their respective sports, Patrick Mahomes and Steve Curry delivered two of the most exciting moments of the day. Mahomes and Curry have developed a bit of a rivalry on golf over the past few years in the ACC and more recently as last-game opponents. They entered the Corbel Long Drive arena in straight sets. The reigning Super Bowl MVP started with 317 yards rushing. Just a few moments later, Curry outgained Mahomes by a one-yard lead that sent the crowd rushing.
Curry took the 318-yard Full Swing shooting screen and lunged over the Korbel leaderboard for everyone to see his feat. From player to player, these big players stepped up in another big moment. Curry rode the momentum of the long drive all the way to his first ACC title thanks to a sensational hit on the 18th green.
As the day drew to a close, Kelechi was the last competitor to be very serious about getting his shot.
“Oh, my God,” said Kelsey. “I’ve never hit a ball like that in my life.”
It was a once-in-a-lifetime swing that resulted in a massive 362-yard drive that secured the win for Kelsey and a $5,000 charitable donation from Corbell.
“87 and running It is my nonprofit charity that helps underprivileged and underprivileged children in Kansas City and Cleveland. “I’m just trying to make life better for them and my profits will go to the foundation.”
