On the final day of developmental camp, the Washington Capitals held their annual three-on-three tournament, with prospects assigned to one of five teams. The winner of the tournament wins the very prestigious tournament trophy. We’re not sure what it’s called, but it’s a legit trophy. Here were my points from the tournament.
red team
Bogdan Treniev “C”, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Simon Tassi, Ryan Lippold, Dylan Anhorn, Aaron Trotter (G)
white team
Oscar Magnusson “C”, Ryan Chesley, TJ Hughes, Patrick Thomas, Ryan Hoover and Garin Bjorklund (G)
blue team
Brent Johnson “C”, Ryan Leonard, Max Burkholder, Jack Rogers, Jackson Murray, Mitchell Gibson (G)
green team
Haakon Hanelt “C”, Ludwig Pearson, Jake Carabella, Cam Allen, Brett Hyland (Egging), Chase Clark (G)
Gray team
Joachim Lemay “C”, Alex Suzdalev, Andrew Crystal, Ian Pearce, David Guciardi (injury), Antoine Keeler (G)
Tournament Notes
I wasn’t able to go through all of the games so I’ll try to include as much as I can of what I saw and who stood out.
Ryan Leonard It took a bit to settle down. He had a turnover that resulted in a goal Oscar Magson.

However, Leonard scored twice in the next game against Gray’s team.
Once the camera was off, Ryan Leonard buried his second goal. 2-1 blue. I have my money in the red team with Miroshnichenko. # the capper pic.twitter.com/Vb0qmRtnBG

He was the player we didn’t talk enough about, but he stood out in the tournament Bogdan Trenev. Trienyev showed his light quick release, heading down. However, he was mugged by Chase Clark in another game.

Ryan Chesley It looked really solid. He plays and skates well, along with Alexander Suzdalev.
Ivan Miroshnichenko He had a really nice goal that outwitted the opposing goalkeeper. Wait for it and then turn the dial on the side of the glove. He also threw some punches.
The physique was selected at the end of the tournament. Here is a sequence from that.
Choose your physique. Ryan Chesley just scored. I think White has 3 goals. And Trenev went down. # the capper pic.twitter.com/qi0DWWmPMG

My favorite part was the shootout between Team Gray and Team Blue. I’m not sure what led to that because I didn’t watch the match, but the penalty shootout was very entertaining. This has been Andrew CrystalBread and butter.

Team White and Team Gray were up for the championship. Chesley scored the first goal and Crystal equalized at one point.

The regulation wasn’t enough, however, as the game went into overtime. There weren’t many high-risk scoring opportunities due to how well each team defended. But Ian Pearce has said enough.
