Karen Silva spoiled the UFC debut of Ketlen Souza in perhaps more ways than one.
The women’s flyweight match was one that Silva (16-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) secured early in a blistering fashion from Souza (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC).
After dragging Sousa to the mat with a takedown, Silva initially threatened a guillotine submission from the top. Souza recovered a full guard, but after standing up and landing several punches, Silva fell to his knee. She immediately presses the hold, popping Sousa’s knee. Sousa was clearly in pain and quickly took advantage of it.
With the win, Silva continued her finishing ways while extending her current winning streak to seven. The impressive stretch was littered with early stops, including six finishes in the first round, and one victory in the second.
Sousa’s debut couldn’t be much worse. She got her shot at the UFC after racking up a five-way winning streak, which included two wins under the Invicta banner.
Sousa was helped out of the cage with her team, as she was unable to put her full weight on her injured leg.
