Kawhi Leonard underwent a “cleaning procedure” on the meniscus tear he sustained in his right knee last NBA game, according to The Athletic’s Murray Law. The operation took place around 6 June.
According to team president Lawrence Frank, Leonard is expected to recover within eight weeks and be ready for the team’s training camp in September.
Leonard was shelved by the Clippers last postseason after suffering a meniscus tear. He played the first two games of his first round block against the Phoenix Suns where he had 34.5 points, 6.5 boards, 6.0 assists and a 54.5 percent efficiency but missed the next three games as Los Angeles was eventually eliminated in five.
After not playing all of 2021-22 due to an ACL recovery, Leonard made 52 appearances in the 2022-23 season and averaged 23.8 points, 6.5 boards and 3.9 assists on 51.2 percent shooting.
The two-time Finals MVP will remain under contract with the Clips through 2024-25 (player option).
