Cowboys’ Micah Parsons joins the team for Day 1 of the OTAs – Todd Brock, Cowboys Wire
Micah Parsons attends the volunteer phase of the off-season.
The boys are back… on the training ground.
Tuesday marked the first field action for the Cowboys – both juniors and veterans – in this year’s offseason program. No platforms or direct contact yet, but 7-on-7, 7-on-9 and 11-on-11 exercises are back on the schedule.
and a key member of the Dallas Defense present and calculated.
Linebacker Micah Parsons has been working alone several hours away in Austin, but said he’ll report to The Star in Frisco for OTAs, even though all posts are still voluntary at this point in the offseason program.
David Moore of Dallas Morning News I reported on Tuesday that Parsons delivered on his promise and was on the field with the team in the first session.
Future HOF player looks to keep winning vs. Cowboys in a different jersey – Mario Herrera Jr., Inside Star
The Cowboys have seen success against some 2023 opponents, but not so much against others.
Expected start: Aaron Rodgers
W/L log vs. DAL: 8-3 (2-0 in the playoffs)
When it comes to the newest quarterback for New York JetsWords by Stephen A. The famous Smith comes to mind. Aaron Rodgers is a bad guy.
The Cowboys had a regular season hit against Aaron Rodgers while still a member of the Green Bay Packers. The playoffs are where the undefeated remains, handing the Cowboys and their fans two losses in heartbreaking fashion.
Fortunately, the only way Dallas can face Rodgers in the playoffs right now is if they meet in the Super Bowl.
Cowboys fans should be happy to have one of the best defenses in the NFL when Rodgers comes to town in Week 2.
Rodgers is a confirmed first ballot selection for the NFL Hall of Fame, and has excellent stats against most teams in the NFL. His stats against Dallas are amazing, and it cemented him as the biggest Cowboys killer of them all.
5 Major Position Battles of the Cowboys Offense – Patrick Walker, DallasCowboys.com
There are a few key spot battles to watch throughout training camp.
running back: The decision to part ways with Ezekiel Elliott creates a huge void that needs to be filled in some way versus Tony Pollard, and the first nod there is likely to be Ronald Jones, the two-time Super Bowl winner signed this offseason. Enter rookie dynamo Deuce Vaughn though, who will make it incredibly difficult to walk away from the field in RB2-focused situations, but will also have to try to fend off promising talent in Malik Davis and veteran Rico Dowdle. This will easily be one of the best position battles this summer, especially when rookie linebacker (flexback) Hunter Luepke pitches.
wide future: Let’s kick the tires and light the flames, guys. This battle will undoubtedly be one of the most fun to watch, especially with the addition of Brandin Cooks. We expect Chefs to debut this summer alongside CeeDee Lamb, but questions about Michael Gallup’s willingness to take back the step abound. There’s no reason he can’t be back on top in 2023, and assuming that, it’s the WR4 battle that takes center stage – Jalen Tolbert finds himself pitted against Semmy Fyoko and nine other WR corpses (including 2022 camp star Dennis Houston). Maybe KaVontae Turpin is getting into the party too, but with so many passes to go around, this fight has to get hot and heavy.
tight end: This time last year, Dalton Schultz was the obvious TE1 for this unit, but Al-Shabaab has officially taken over the position in Dallas. Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot both got off to hot starts as starters in 2022, and as such, helped fuel the decision to wave goodbye to Schultz, and the addition of Luke Schoonmaker as a second-round pick in April cements it all about the Up-and-Comers for the Cowboys. But does Ferguson own the throne by default, or will Schoonmaker force him into the role of 1B? Could Hendershot’s remarkable ability widen the playing field and offer YAC to others, and how will Sean McCune work in this year’s edition of the Four Horsemen? I fully expect Ferguson vs Shoemaker vs Hendershot to deliver fireworks on a regular basis.
Third-row wish come true for Cowboys rookie DeMarvion Overshown – Todd Archer, ESPN
The Cowboys are in the third round looking to cash in on his childhood dream.
DeMarvion Overshown was like a lot of the Texas boys in third grade. He wanted to grow up and play for the Dallas Cowboys. Put it there in the yearbook for all to see.
When the Cowboys selected him in the third round of this year’s draft, he took to social media, proving that his dream had become a reality.
The funny thing is, I wasn’t such a big, big Cowboy fan, but I knew if I was going to play in one place and I had the choice, it would be the Cowboys,” Overchone said. “It’s your hometown team.”
Transgression originated in East Texas. He attended Arp High School, just over two hours from AT&T Stadium, home of the Cowboys in Arlington, Texas, just off Interstate 20. It’s a typical small town Texas where high school football rules.
“I tell you what if we were [playing] “Out of town, the last person had to turn out the lights and lock the store door,” said Overseas coach Dale Irwin, who spent 19 years as a Tigers coach. “Sport is the community. Our town isn’t real big. We have about two or three stores right on the railroad tracks. A major road runs through them, but the town has sport. They’re a big part of it.”
NFL.com ranks the Dallas Cowboys among the top 5 “most complete” teams across the league – RJ Ochoa, Blogging the Boys
The Cowboys are ranked as one of the most complete teams in the NFL.
There are a lot of talented teams in the NFL but some of them are talented in different ways. One unit might be a little heftier and piloted by a great quarterback for example, while another might have the staples but lack a real drink-stirring straw (shouted Stephen Jones).
Be that as it may, Eric Edholm has compiled a ranking of the “most complete” teams in the NFL In NFL.com the Dallas Cowboys came in fifth.
5. Dallas Cowboys
Dallas is very loaded on defense and can definitely be a top five unit. The Cowboys addressed the need for a defensive tackle by selecting Mazie Smith in the first round. When you think of the pass-rushing duo of Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence, and some good depth outside, the boys boast a deep, talented front.
Linebacker and secondary are also well stocked. Depending on preseason injuries, the seven defensemen may have some tough cuts. The addition of Stephon Gilmour at cornerback, along with the emergence of linebacker Damon Clarke and defensive linebacker Da Ron Bland late in the season, makes this unit deep and dangerous.
Despite this, there are deep concerns at least almost everywhere about the attack. Dak Prescott is coming off a challenging season, and the Cowboys probably can’t afford to lose him another five-game block in 2023. Cooper Rush brilliantly replaced Prescott and returned, but is he really a top-notch backup? That’s all they have at QB.
Depth is best at receiver after the trade for Brandin Cooks, who must diversify the offense. But Dallas really could use Michael Gallup or Galen Tolbert or whoever else steps up. The running back took a hit with the release of Ezekiel Elliott, which loomed even more as Tony Pollard was out with a broken leg and sprained ankle. Maybe rookie Deuce Vaughn could fill in a bit, but there seems to be a void here.
The tight end is in solid form with the addition of second baseman Luke Schoonmaker, but the offensive line is partially unresolved. Last year’s starters might have been a little confused, and the depth seems so now.
