London, United Kingdom: The British Basketball Association is pleased to announce that former London Lions star Paige Robinson has joined the league as its new Marketing Assistant following the conclusion of the 2022/23 British Women’s Basketball League season.
Paige joins the league’s marketing department after a hugely successful career on the court, which has seen her claim ten titles in the British Women’s Basketball League, including, most recently, the Playoff Cup at The O2 Arena in London where the Lions dominated in first place. Leicester Riders.
The Londoner has won the WBBL Cup and Play-offs on three occasions and has two other cup and championship titles to her name. At the same time, Paige represented the Lions at the prestigious EuroCup competition, where she was part of a record-breaking team that flew the British basketball banner across the continent.
Aside from her stellar career on the court, Paige earned a master’s degree in sports management during her time at the University of Florida and is extremely passionate about giving back to the sport she loves. She has a particular ambition to help engage and inspire young people with British basketball.
Paige is now joining the League to further its marketing efforts during a period of incredible growth and investment, and will continue the momentum behind the League after a record-breaking campaign. Her role will be vital in supporting the marketing team responsible for increasing the league’s visibility, attracting new fans and developing new initiatives to increase participation in the sport.
Speaking upon her arrival, Paige Robinson said:
“Everything I wanted to do after playing in America was lead me to a niche in the business side of the sport. Not that I don’t enjoy basketball, but there are a lot of people who want to give back to the game, and I feel like now is the time to do that.”
“Whether it’s sharing my knowledge of sports, helping kids, community work, or anything I can do to give back, it makes my heart smile.
“I can’t wait to help the great work that is already being done in the British Basketball League and to continue developing the game.”
Joe Edwards, Head of Marketing at the British Basketball League, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Paige to the growing marketing team within the league. This is a really exciting addition to our marketing efforts – having someone with Paige’s experience and knowledge of the sport will play a huge part in bringing the league to new audiences both domestically and abroad.
“It is also important for the league to leverage the knowledge and experience of our players wherever possible, so being able to provide Paige with this opportunity as she transitions from her career on the court is very rewarding. We look forward to working with Paige to advance some of the big and exciting initiatives we have planned her for the new season.
This appointment continues to highlight the British Basketball League’s desire to support the transition of players after their sporting careers. Recent examples include Mike Tuck who heads up B. Braun’s Sheffield Sharks marketing efforts and Azanya Stewart, who appeared regularly on league broadcasts last season. Plus the likes of Kieron Achara OBE and Drew Lasker who have had successful broadcasting careers covering sports.
The league continues to proactively look to create opportunities for players to engage in off-field organization, as athletes are seen to play a critical role as ambassadors for the league and sports in general.
